Weekend Recap

From this weekend i have learnt to never underestimate the power of peer pressure, bribery or temporary adrenaline pain killers! That and having a break to recover isn't always a bad idea.

The XC Jam was some what quieter than I think anyone had expected but that in no way dampened the spirits of the special few out. To all who made it I only hope you enjoyed it as much as I did.

The zeal crew and XC staff did a great job and definitely made it a day to remember. Big thanks to them all for putting the time in.

Bring on plenty more great times everyone and look forward to seeing those who didnt ride on saturday back there soon.

XC BMX JAM

As I'm sure a few of you are aware XC has recently released news of a BMX jam that's going to be taking place on the 17th of this month. To liven up what is most definitely going to be an awesome of awesome days i was thinking we defo need to do more, along the lines of fancy dress I say!

That and a set of our own challenges for the day. I'm not suggesting killing anyone or doing anything that's naughty naughty but just things to bring joy to our faces.

Obvo no one has heard of these plans until now, mainly as only just popped into my head, but if anyone does want to join in please feel free to suggest challenges and themes for fancy dress on the Destruction Facebook.

70's rock maybe(guns and roses?), hawaiian luau?, Starsky and Hutch? I'm trying to think of ideas that don't involve too much effort seeing as is not that far away and ideas deteriorate quickly when things get difficult.

As for Challenges they can be planned on the day and can also be made before hand within reason!

I really do hope this develops further and others of you unite in my crusade to bring fancy dress back into BMX!

Still Not riding , but dropped into XC last night for a catch up brew, caught up with duty managers Tom and toby and some good news, and what many have been asking for! a change of night for bike night , possibly a wensday night ! also their will be a BMX workshop starting around the 25th of sept, for the beginners out their ! So go see theXC site to confirm changes !
I See keil and the Chesham boys again ,yes I remember the Chesham days riding mini before they got green ramps ;) got to see little Kelly out again, he were riding the bowl ,Mat were killing the pool,the dude on the green bike were shredding again ! And some dude we've all seen about for years footjam whipped the little sub ,damm it's difficult to get names from those who plug them selfs in !

The Rhino Review

So here's the first review we have had in a while so what shall we talk about? There have been no shortage in shiny new goodies over the last few years as BMX has grew and appealed to more and more people but what has stood out as being worth a place on a real rider’s bike? Well assuming you don’t want me to talk about the benefits of ODI longnecks and KMC chains I suppose I should show you something a bit special. I’ll warn you now this review is long so stick the kettle on and settle in.

Introducing the G Sport Ratchet.

Earlier in the year I had the good fortune to swap careers from being a full time name badge to working at a BMX store which is dangerous as it can soon lead to working for bike parts instead of bill and beer tokens, an outcome that was inevitable in the first month. As a self confessed fan of almost anything made by George French and having drooled over this hub in the past upon its arrival it was built into a wheel (needless to and rode that night. Here are my thoughts from the following months.

So let’s start with the obvious thing that will stop many people riding this hub it weighs 564g. Forgive me for not waiting for the weight weenies to change their shirts after spitting out a mouthful of PG in shock but there is good reason for this hub being a chunky monkey. It’s strong, damn strong. This is partly down to the hefty lifetime warranted 20mm female axle but in all honesty everything about this hub is big the bearings the collars everything.
As we have touched on the axle I’d like to let you know a little more about it. It won’t break. I know saying something in BMX is unbreakable is a lie and I will admit to that but this axle has been around for over 10 years now as it originally featured on the Homer hubs and I don’t know anyone that has bent one and chances are you don’t either though I guess there’s always one.

As with all good hubs the hardware is all cromolly from the non-drive side spacer to the 14mm hollow bolts, broached for a 6mm hex wrench, which are an off the peg thread size so if you break one or lose one then your local hardware store will have a replacement. Also worth mentioning at this point is the axle is not threaded instead it uses a helicoil system which is kind of like a spring that screws into the hub then the bolt screws into that. It makes it much harder to strip and pretty foolproof on the cross threading front plus if it does go Pete Tong then it's easy enough to replace just the helicoil part again from a hardware store.

The main hub bearings are huge to make them smooth and strong and have been tested to similar strengths as bottom bracket bearings which is the part of your bike that takes the most force so yeah there strong bearings. Now obviously I didn’t expect to bust the bearings in a few months of riding it but I am a chunky guy with 4 pegs and a riding style rougher than a badgers arse so I thought there might be some vibration when you spin the wheel and hold a peg but nothing to report so far.

In terms of looks the hub body looks pretty much the same as the Homer and still features the thickest angled collars that still allow standard spokes. I have no hub guard on my bike and there’s no damage to the collars so far but I think it would take quite a lot of abuse to bend a collar so thick and so tight to the rest of the body. Much like Windows default settings only knowing 16 colors (most of which are gray) this hub comes in the BMX standard black, white, gold and silver plus whatever limited edition run odyssey are doing that any given month.

So we come to the last part of the hub that needs to have judgment passed... the driver. The driver is usually the part that lets the rest of the hub down due to the ridiculous amount of pressure the pawls and bearings are under. This isn’t helped by people wanting smaller and smaller drivers which make the driver bearings smaller too then riding brakeless. Luckily the driver doesn't have to cope with sideways impacts like the rest of the hub so G sport use needle bearings which can deal with much more load than a standard ball bearing 960kg of load in fact.

This driver has more up its sleeve than just being able to take more pressure than John Prescott’s toilet seat though; it can also be changed from left to right hand drive using only the tools needed to remove the wheel and a flathead screwdriver. No more really needs to be said about that brilliant idea every hub should do it makes life easier and saves shops and distributor’s time, space and money having to hold/order 2 types of the same hub.

You should expect to wave goodbye to around £140 to get one of these new. I always feel a little cautious when talking about money for bike stuff I guess it comes from hearing parents gasps of shock upon hearing me tell them the minimum they should spend on a bike is £300 and anything less they are pissing their money away on fixing whatever the latest Halfords home brew is. I don’t think I need to worry too much this time though, most riders that will read this review know that you spend your money on what you love and what you trust. The ones that haven’t worked that out yet are probably the ones with parents happy to spend whatever it takes to shut little Timmy up long enough to watch Emerdale in peace.

Conclusion? If you are a smooth rider that’s never had trouble with drivers slipping, collars bending or bent axles then this is simply not for you. Yeah sure you can wait for the ti axle and ti bolt upgrade and you'll probably get the weight down around 460g but if you’re going to do that you didn't need a hub like this in the first place in fact you’re the perfect candidate for a profile it will be the nicest thing you have ridden smooth light and good looking. If however you like doing drops, gaps and grind everything in the neignourhood like a dog marking its territory or even just want something you can count on it lasting then I recommend this highly, it’s a damn fine hub made to the highest standard.

Sitting drinking a good old cup Yorkshire tea , with the Scuba Steve,
The Bangers or Tunes for this evening, our The Black Keys !

thinking about the last month of Destruction and weve done alot !
We spent 6 Days on the road, touring with the Harrow Massive. Hasting,Eastbourne,Brighton ,Southsea,Prime and hooked up with the grandad of rad at Mount Hawk !
1000 Plus miles! We rode with the ZEAL Massive on the Invite only day at XC and basically had the hole park to 8 riders for 6 hours ;)
XC Indoor SkatePark finally opened and now Hemel Hempstead finally has a indoor Skatepark , with a Bike night Every Monday 7pm to 10pm! So get yourself their and check it out ! Or just go have a tea with Rhino at Absolute Bmx , that man knows his stuff !
We've had a few Basic Destruction tee shirts made in limited numbers so go get um before their gone!
And had a few bits Break ! 2 Colonys Snapped ,1 S&M LTF cracked, BSD Cracked ,DK Forks cracked dropouts both sides. 2 Profile Rights broken -DAVE !
On a good note 3 of us have new ALONES and some fresh bits so bike checks a coming , ridings been good! Especialy now the BIKE DICE have arrived, thats a fun progressive Game ! With all learning new stuff.
Albums finished now A Scuba steve choice, and a damm fine album to drink a cup of Brew too

Well I only got their to see the last half hour but it were good to see Mason Smith and some of the custom riders crew riding , dint no name but the dude on the green bike were on it in the mini , and I also see a double ET over the box and Ryan Browns 3 on the T ;) big ups for that ! lT looked averagely busy , and was good to see the sub box area ridable rather than block by riders , a final big up to Jez for letting me in to catch up !

Destruction Bmx Update August 2011

Damm been a year ! but Destruction never disappeared we just were riding hard ;) Now were Back and hopefully withs some fresh changes to the blog ! As most no XC skate park opened is rad its indoor Park,Pool,bowl
and has a bike night on Monday's 7pm-10pm get yourself down and check it out !
So far , so good plenty of new faces riding , killing it lol , sub box and some if the better lines get blocked up but it will sort it self over time !
The destruction crews had a few breaks recently hence some of the up and coming blog changes.
We've tour for 6 day from Hastings to Mount Hawke doing 1000 plus miles ;) and some have got new rides so bike checks to come too ;)
Since getting back from tour ,We decided to get some basic Destruction Tees made up !
So if your interested see one of the crew at XC Facebook us or send us a mail ,
LOVE Tees & some basic/love sticker sets our also on route ;)

Update DBC BMX august

This month Extreme Connections Finally confirmed the the go ahead on the 5million indoor park , For all who didnt see , it was on the front page of the hearld express last week , Hinting at being open for June/July 2011 ,with a artist impresion of the state of the art building and a image from one of the park builders, Hemels Indoor Skatepark will be one of a kind ,with a Indoor Pool , Concreate Bowl and a Wooden streetcoarse all under a one roof ! the days our now counting down till Hemel finally gets a Indoor Park

With the summer here lots of sessions been going on , sessions on Harrows new Mini spine have been sweet ,being back riding with the Harrow massive brings the best out of us Hemel Idiots, and much fun is always had at the Concreate Mecca .We also took a trip to Horsham and Southwaters amazing Mini Spine good times !bad end ! but hey he bounced ! and the lesson to wear your lid was forgotten by some but remembered by more !Their been a few sessions down the HH too and yesterdays has got to be one of the best i had in a while, it were pretty much a bmx only day! Full on riding with out the Picnic intervals! Olly eventully got a new ladie and regained that Smile , Mitch popped down to say Hello, His still waiting for confirmation of what may be a shoulder op! but were well good to see him out on his bike even if he were just pedaling it! all in all a good day of proper riding , leaving most buzzing again!

Computer issues have kept me away the Blog over the last few months plus the fact summer is here and we been riding ,Well first up the bad news, after all our efforts threw winter to get some trails,which i gotta say from the little taste i got, they were gonna be rad ,Sadly and once again, the lads got busted , not good. Heritage land which some will say was obvious or maybe even a"I told you so",but either way the Hemel Riders our back searching, Maybe a farmer may help us out this time ! Anyway and to some better news, around the same time as the bust, Myself and Jobe painted the Metal Mecca , so the summer sessions have begun.
Olly's recently snapped his Kink "Buy Cheap, buy twice" on a big twist to nose plant on the volcano, cracked the weld across the top tube ,so he out till he finds funds for a new ride,Mitch is still sitting out with shoulder issues and the same with Broke off Barry,
Finally Harrow got what many from their have dreamed of riding for years, the most amazing wooden minispine/minimini setup for miles. It was finished on friday, so some of the DBC made the journey up for a session and a catch up with the local's, goodtimes on a Soild Proper Job of a Ramp,
enough for now ,hopefully some more Pictures and stuff up next time

Winter had felt like forever, but spring is now here, The sun has broken out, The dirt jumps our jumping and the evening sessions down the park have begun,, gotta say it good to see the broke off massive back doing what they love !
Well First of all and as I continuiosly being asked "WHENS THE PARK BEING PAINTED" Ive made the call to the council, and it seams that things have changed again at our council and a new person is in charge, She promised to get back to me last week as she was going to try and arrange it for us. Are make another call and see where their at and hopefully were get the park painted soon! Any Idea's for the wall ? Let us no. gotta be good!
Next the THE 5MILLION POUND INDOOR PARK ? Spoke to the man with a plan the other day and caught up with whats happening with this 5million pound indoor park and some other matters to do with dirt. Well things seam to be going well , with him confirming that the okay has been given and the tenders are in .Their waiting on I think its Myplace for the funds to be forwarded at the moment but Dave the man Cove, claimed that the diggers should be starting and digging in 4 weeks !

Extreme Connections ------ NEWS

Yesterday i got to have a quick meeting with Dave Cove, Cheif Ex of Hemels sportspace and the man with the plan ,of a 5million pound indoor park in our town, Hemel Hempstead.
He showed me the revised plans of whats to be the park, Concrete bowls with hips ,Pool a wooden freestyle area ,basically in his word's "a Competition standard Skate park" He also metioned the Donation of a Vert ramp ,but still trying to figure that out, and that we Locals will have a day to check it out ride and confirm that were happy with the quality before opening !
Dave talked threw the other facility's that will be in the same state of the art 3 sided building, plans for what looks to be an amazing climbing facility ,with traversing and indoor pot holing!!!!!Band and DJ bouth's 2 shops and a hole lot more .
From what I've seen this place is going to be amazing. and if all goes to plan over the next week or 2 ,a Press release will be in the paper soon and work will begin and finish sooner than we all think. Plans and talks have already started to make the opening day one to remember VANS and Etnies were both mentioned, noth said ! And other big names our being asked, for what sounds to be a opening weekend !

Also News today from the Hitcher that Harrows new Mini hipped Mini spine will hopefully be finished by the end of April the bowls may take a bit longer

Had a wicked session down Hemel the weekend ,were unable to ride, due to tweekin my knee again ,but the lads were on it, and busting, So i got on me camera and took some Pic's, big up all that made it out ,for me bday ride.

on the 11th of December,3 years ago,the Buncefield oil depo blew up! ruining mine and many others homes and work places, Since that day, the oil barrons have continued to make billions, but they have also tried to aviod responsibility!! They have given nothing back to the people,or town they Destroyed!
Tommorow they are planning to unvail a £350,000 metal sculpture!
Maybe it was based on this building ?

With so many buildings still in ruins, it's lucky that we aint in a recession!!!!
So as it seams impossable to get a job in this town!!!! i'am gonna dedicate some of my time to showing and telling you what happened that day showing some of the pic's i took from that day,till today, some of the story i wrote that morning, Pictures's that i've aquired and hopefully some fresh Photo's showing the state that Hemel Hempstead is still in to this day!
This will be my Creation from the Destruction,This it may take some time to put together, but it will all be worth it!

Tennis Elbow !

Today i gave in the pain and went to the hospital they gave me a selection of tablets that most us old fools will no of and booked us into the Fracture Clinic on Monday !

I as many others fort that Tennis Elbow were just a gay injury ! How wrong we all were! 5 odd months and a steriod injection later! its still killin me! My Advice to anyone with pains in their Elbow, Is to lay off and rest it. As it dont go it just gets worse!

had a good few months riding a digging! We went a checked out STA Trails,had a wicked day riding their and all wanted to go back! but unfortunatly and Darren confirmed, The Trails have been destroyed, ploughed by the farmer!So R.I.P St Albans Trails!

The Harrow Death Jam went off! the Destruction Massive pretty much were all their, riding filmin taking pic's and enjoying Harrowskate parks last ever jam,Their so many faces to catch up with!Free Redbull BBQ and Cahartt/Zeal goodies! a wicked Day! Gunner and Bazza own that Park! The one bad point was the mistaken identity half hour row with some hoodlems they were gonna and in their words "Mack 10 ya brv""Give ya a dusting" and finally welll till i see the footage" Their gonna be a murder in this park Blood"Did'nt no whether to laugth or cry Lol
They were their "for revenge and to get Dom for looking like the guy who put one of them in a coma! these dicks and his mates were beatin the shit outta one of the younger locals and someone stepped in KARMA !
so R.I.P Harrow Skatepark! I got endless good memories

Destructions Dvd is getting their just waiting on Ill Advised for the Beginging and other clips, Ross Domoney with his edits and some final footage from Bazza before we can finish editin and get it out! Been thinkin bout some tee's too as were coming up to 2 yrs! so when we find some time we will be workin on some designs!
In other news, Bazza and Tim went on Holiday and see Knock of Nigel everywhere! Check the pic's, P, Dreadloc Mat and Oliver had a messy day on the Pear Cider in Hydepark watching G love and SpecialSauce if you havent heard of him then check Hoffmans Madd Matt ! G's SICK!
Tweek went and see the Verve at Eden! Eden is a amazing place!
Hemels Old Skooler Steve Brewin hit the BIG 40 and Steph arranged a supprise get together at the local with the Nomads
Finally we been doing a bit of work ,and got our Trails Working ! and flowing nicely for the rest of the summer! good times are coming! We also Painted the Skatepark for its Bday this weekend so come down Hemel and ride with the Locals from 12 till late!

Well this weekend some of us worked hard trying to get the beginging section workin! were a lovely weekend but we dug anyway.
After 2 hrs raising the 2nds landin, we finally got over the 3rd and a few more tweeks later Olly bitch cranks it threw all 9 sets !
We Probaly got a million more tweeks to do down Greenhills! but hey who has ever built a workin pack in 80days?No one ! so we have done really well and now we have our foundations built! well untill the winter Months!
As its been way too hot and with Someone Knickin the Tarp we is outta water, with out water its hardwork to make anything solid !
The Young guns have all relized how hard it is,We all relize how hard it is but us Greenhills massive Just want some Proper Trails and diggin in the suns the only way!

Today were a goodday and all are hard work in some way payed us back

Alot of changes to Greenhills this week, And all for the good. The Gaysection obviously had to go!! So we've built up all 3 of them up.With now Bigger and wider landings and take offs gaps more suitible to get in original big Section. Heres some pics of what we been up too, were about 10weeks in to Building Greenhills and have enongh space for a few more supprises yet!

This week we decided ,in away a treat for all are hard work To go and hook up with some freinds and have a look and see what they have been up too, We turned up to and all of us were pretty gobsmacked at all the changes! remembering when they had a few simple lines going! so the lads have been well busy over the years!
We rode, for 4 hrs. pretty much undisturbed and loved them! All of us having a pretty good day!Eventually the locals turned up ,It were just as we we're leaving!, so did'nt get to have the much wanted catch up and ride with them,but they were cool,Showed us how its done and invited us back, which we 100% will be doing soon!!!!

Not much riding as it Rained!A Months worth of rain in a day and its Continued to rain!!!!!!!!!!!
So gonna start with the best bit of news i have Heard from the lads in ages!
One of my longest riding mates,Hemels Darren "The General" Lee Become a Dad! yes you hear me Darrens a Dad.Never belived he had it in him Lol
Yesterday at 3.16pm,weighin in at 12.5 oz, Jaimee Grace Lee was born! So Concrats to Darren, Fran.This Vid is for you Bro Luv ya man !
His lookin to have a session a corby so if any of ya lads sre up for it we be going Corby the weekend!
Scubas Steves Site A Quest for Trails has been building up! with some good Trails only Vids and Regular updates on what Him and the lads have been upto down Destructions Trails, Go check it out as I no his got loads of Ideas and Plans with it!
In other news, over the next couple of weeks Destruction Rider Olly McPherson will be takin over the Myspace page!helpin towards the Blogs,and generall Destruction stuff .Also Nigel and the lads been banging on about getting some Tees and Olly will be doing some design/Ideas etc for them !Respect to Him!!!
The DVD's coming on Mark from Ill Advised been workin hard Filmin Editing and I cant wait to see what he comes up with! Archive35 and their edits are also coming on and Hopefully i will get to see them near, sometime over the next week they been well busy recently with Archive35's 3day Launch Coming from the 11th of June, its at the London College of Communication, Elephat and Castle,If you are interested in seeing what they been upto heres ya chance!

6 weeks, And Digging hard!!!!!

6 weeks in and what we have achieved is awesome!!!!!
It was getting hard work Diggin in the sun but the rain came at just the right time!!!!!,A Months worth in a Day!!!! letting us repair the main line.and making work on the others much easier!
There looking good,big n scary haha!!!!!.
A bit of sadness tho as the newbies bar Rhino, have relised what hard work is involed in building Trails and have not bin seen![well at the park you can] so we'v taken over and now our creating a new line yet to be named......?
The pool liner(Tarp) was installed,yes u read right,we have a pool in the makin Lol!!!
So a recapp on the Hills!
We now start at a rollin as we all agreed NO PEDELING,its enough of a walk back to the top! then a manual stepup,whoops,4 pack then 2 choices,at the moment, either the main line,or the start of the rollercoster line which starts by dropping deep into the ground from a landing into a big double then of into 2 berms and hopefully a big stepup back into the main line! ,its forever in devolopment but always letting you transfer back ino the mainline!
Well dats it for this week. My stiches came out last week so i can get some serious digging done and take advantage of the rain,keep checking in as pics n vid's constantly being updated

Scuba and the Greenhills Massive

5 weeks into Our Dig!

In the last week we have been well busy, we've built up the first quiet a bit it!And the 2nd set got built up and extended to 12 and half foot Making it now the largest of the 4 in the Main, Their now a decent size!
P was their tester and after a hour of messing about with them, a few stacks Lips tweeked etc he got threw at speed, going massive over the last!and lovin it
In his words "Now your Heart beats a lot quicker! Their Wicked, Scary Big, Yeah".Their get a few more tweeks and their be done till winter !!!

Also we built up and finished the New Additions jumps!!!!!!!!! They just wern't getting anywhere with them and summer would of been here before they new it! So we took them over,And made them a little bigger,Well for this week anyway! Now that the lads are near finishin the main pack! they will have to be built up again to match!
Some Whoops and a Manual thing have also been added makin Greenhills a little more fun!at the begining, Ollie Loved them Lol, Scuba's almost finished the Scoop ! You can see the Scoop on the left,in the the picture above Also you can see the man himself chillin after finishing.Taken from the 2nd landing of the gaysection!!!!!
Well after 5 weeks diggin in the sun,seeing all the changes with the jumps and the area we chose, Greenhills is quiet a good relevent name for them as its Very Green up their!!!!! This week we've been begging for some rain so we can tweek and make some proper repairs to the main section, and we got what we were wishing for today a full days worth of Rain! So let the Tweeking begin!

Mixed feelings today,went to the hospital to av stiches out to find out its infected, damm. But as i arrived at Greenhills i was met by the sight off are newest n youngest diggers Sam n Louis jumping the 1st off the new line,big smiles all round, respect.
The 1st in the main pack is ready n looking sweet, 2 is being built up as i write,3 is all good while 4 awaits the landing it deserves. Much needed rain arrived today (thank the Lord) so were be heads down arse's up as we get them ready for the next bout off sun!!!!

So were 1 month into building a set of trails and i thought i'd wright a blog on what it means to me.8 years of riding with the bmxers off the doubleH, lots of talk on building a proper set,and a few lame attemps and finally YES it's happend (at this point heaps off respect to all involed,easy to spot,their the one's with the big smiles at the sk8park) in a month diggin,lots of hard work,blood sweat and tears ,but most of all lots off love...............
